Run the Sums: check your heat pump quote

About Run the Sums

A free check for people in Ireland who are holding a heat pump quote and want to know, before they sign, whether the price is in line with what other people paid, what they will pay after grants, and what it will cost to run.

Why it exists

Since the SEAI grant rose in 2026, a lot of households are getting their first heat pump quote with nothing to compare it to. SEAI publishes the data that makes a comparison possible, but it is spread across PDFs and tariff pages. Run the Sums puts the numbers in one place and does the arithmetic from your own bills.

Independent

Where the numbers come from

Every figure the check uses has a source: SEAI's median installed costs and grant amounts, SEAI's domestic fuel cost comparison, the published standard tariffs of the main electricity and gas suppliers, and an SEAI-funded field trial of heat pumps in Irish homes. The sources are listed under "How this works" on the check itself, and the date they were last checked is on every page. Prices change; if a figure looks out of date, it probably is, and the check lets you overwrite it.

What it is not

It is not a heat loss survey, a design or financial advice. It cannot see your insulation, your radiators or the detail of your quote. Results are ranges because the inputs are ranges. Use it to ask better questions, not to replace the survey.

Contact

Corrections to a number are especially welcome. If you bought the report, the receipt from Lemon Squeezy has the contact details for support and refunds.

The name

"Run the sums" is what you should do with any quote. The heat pump check is the first tool here; others for the home energy decisions Irish households face may follow.
